Currently I know that there are a few behaviors that I do that will affect my health negatively in the future. I would like to change one of the following habits: get at least 8 hours of sleep by getting to bed earlier, try to stop biting my nails by chewing gum instead, lose 5 pounds by the end of the semester by exercise and change in diet, stop drinking caffeine by slowly decreasing intake and replacing it with water or not caffeinated beverages within one month, or watch less Netflix by replacing it with more study time and reading. The behavior I have decided to change is to stop drinking caffeinated and switch to a healthy alternative (water, sprite, unsweet tea, etc.). While black coffee can help to prevent diabetes, sugary coffee and sodas could lead to type 2 diabetes. Caffeine has a lot of negative effects on the body, i t is amazing the changes that will occur when it is cut out of your life. Mentally, caffeine may cause increased anxiety, especially as a college student added anxiety is definitely something we do not need. In the long run anxiety may lead to depression. Physically, caffeine can cause weight gain. Many experts say that sugary drinks are a huge cause of the obesity epidemic in the western world. Obesity leads to a shorter lifespan and a lot of health issues. Socially, caffeine causes some people to be irritable which may lead to complicated relationships with friends or co-workers. If you become socially isolated or have issues with people in could also lead to depression which wears your body down. Financially, caffeinated beverages cost a lot of money per year, which is money that can be used toward healthy food choices or towards a new car.
